RMK’s annual report approved by its Supervisory Board 19.03

Today, RMK’s Supervisory Board approved the audited annual report for the 2011 financial year, according to which RMK had a sales turnover of EUR 137 million and a profit of EUR 32 million in 2011.

Compared to 2010, both RMK’s sales turnover and profit grew by approximately 20%, due to continued improvement in demand on the timber market in the first half of 2011. “We were able to turn demand on the market to our advantage and thus outperform the plans that had been made for last year,” affirmed Aigar Kallas, Chairman of the Management Board of RMK.

EUR 20.6 million was transferred into the national budget in revenue from ownership, on which EUR 5.5 million was paid in income tax. EUR 3.8 million was paid in land tax.

Altogether, RMK sold 2.67 million cubic metres of felled timber in 2011. In addition, RMK sold 0.31 million cubic metres of timber in the form of wood chips. Of the total sales volume last year, logs made up 41%, pulpwood 38%, firewood 10% and wood chips 11%.

Last year, 13.4 million new seedlings were planted in the state forest, 3 million seedlings more than the year before. Young stand maintenance works were carried out on 15 934 hectares in 2011.

Opportunities for nature holidays in RMK’s recreation and protected areas were used more than 1.5 million times. At RMK’s 18 nature centres, more than 43 000 people, within the space of a year, participated in various programmes that raise nature awareness.

RMK is a profit-making state agency established under the Forestry Act, aimed at sustainable and efficient management of the state forest. RMK grows forest renewal material, organises forest works, deals with the sale of forest and timber and organises the care of game. Additionally, RMK establishes opportunities for hiking and forest vacations in recreation areas, in Estonia’s five national parks and in almost 40 other protected areas, and shapes nature awareness. Of Estonia’s forests, 38% are under RMK’s management.
