15.05.2008 - RMK opened 13 information desks for nature travellers 10.10

Beginning today, 13 information desks are open to nature travellers, providing practical and up-to-date information as well as printed materials regarding nature trails, rest sites and natural objects located in the state forests. The information desks of the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) are open every weekday from 15 May to 15 September from 10.00-18.00.

The information desks are mostly located in the same houses as nature centres and it is possible for visitors to view exhibits and information collections on display. In addition, useful information about local points of interest or regional events is available from the information desks, and available for purchase are mementos bearing the logo of RMK (shirts, hats, badges, etc.).

Information desks are open for the sixth consecutive year already. Specific contact information can be found at the address wwweng.rmk.ee/teabepunktid.

RMK has established 720 km of hiking trails, 42 camping sites and 499 campfire sites in the state forest. It is possible to stop at 24 forest houses or forest huts. RMK offers nature education activities at 12 nature centres and the Sagadi Forest Centre. Beginning this summer, the Elistvere Animal Park will be managed by RMK. In 2007, the state forest was visited 820 000 times for the purpose of nature holidays, and the number has been growing each year.

RMK is a profit-making state agency established under the Forestry Act, aimed at sustainable and efficient management of the state forest.
In addition to this, RMK creates possibilities for forest holidays and shapes nature awareness.
RMK maintains approximately 40% of the Estonian forests.
