The Aegviidu-Kõrvemaa recreation area extends from the St Petersburg Highway to the Tallinn-Tartu Highway. The recreation area is located on the territories of several protected areas and besides forests there are also bogs-marshes, lakes, eskers and valleys. It is a great area for being in nature all year round – here you can hike, bicycle, ski, train hard, as well as take a simple walk. Well-equipped camping areas and outdoor fireplaces are inviting you to put your feet up and have a picnic. The area offers a number of possibilities to nature photographers, bird- and animal watchers, and mushroom- and berry pickers.

Aegviidu-Kõrvemaa recreation area is divided into four: Aegviidu, Põhja-Kõrvemaa, Kakerdaja and Paunküla.
