Birds
In Estonia one can hunt 37 different species of birds. In spring, the
bird hunting in Estonia is prohibited.Woodpigeon may be hunted by calling hunt, hunting from hides or stalking hunt from 1st August to 31st October. Anseriformes (grey goose, white-fronted goose, bean goose, Canada goose, wigeon, grey duck, teal, mottled duck, pintail, garganey, shoveler, pochard, tufted pochard, eider, long-tailed duck, black scoter, goldeneye), whitefront or coot, laridae (black-headed gull, common gull, herring gull, black-backed gull), snipe and hazel grouse may be hunted by calling hunt, hunting from hides or stalking hunt and by hunt with a hunting dog, except the hound, from 20th August to 31 October. Anseriformes, laridae, whitefront and snipe may be hunted at the sea, at the Narva water reservoir, at Lake Võrtsjärv, at Lake Peipus and Lake Pihkva from 20th August to 30th November. Barnacle goose may be hunted by hunting from hides and stalking hunt in the location of damages caused by these birds at Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, in Lääne county and Pärnu county from 1st September to 15 November. Woodcock may by hunted by search hunt, hunting from hides or stalking hunt and hunt with a pointer from 1st August to 30th November. Partridge may be hunted by a search hunt with a pointer from 1st September to 31 October. Pheasant may be hunted by search hunt, hunting from hides and stalking hunt, or by hunt with a hunting dog, except the hound, from 1st October to 28 February. Heron, rook or fieldfare may be hunted by hunting from hides or stalking hunt outside the nesting time for the purpose of regulating the multitude of birds. Hooded crow and house pigeon may be hunted by calling hunt, stalking hunt or hunting from hides and hunt with a crow trap from 1st July to 30 March.
In the RMK hunting districts the bird hunting is organized above all on the transmigrating species of birds in hunting districts that are located alongside the sea. In the Leluselja hunting district hunt on woodcock and snipe is organized with dogs taken along by the hunting customer.
