Additional information

Under national nature conservation since 1981, when 30 new bog protection areas were created. The main purpose of the protected area is the preservation, protecting and studying of the Emajõgi River delta bog and its endangered and rare communities and species. Since 1997, the protected area is one of the wetlands of international importance (Ramisar wetlands) and since 2004 one of the Natura 2000 bird and nature areas.

The observation towers on the Emajõe-Suursoo Nature Reserve are no longer safe. Entering a tower is at one’s own liability.
