RMK’s new website 23.09

RMK’s updated homepage will devote more attention than before to providing information about recreation opportunities in the Estonian wilderness. The search system (in Estonian) that has been created will help to find readily hiking trails, huts, campsites and other recreation sites constructed in the wilderness in the area of choice.

From this year on, besides its 13 recreation areas, RMK also organises visits to Estonia’s five national parks and approximately 40 other protected areas, being the biggest provider of holidays in the natural environment in Estonia. The database on the new homepage will contain over 500 recreation sites; to find a suitable option, the region and activity/activities on which information is being sought need to be defined on the search page.

„Estonians love hiking in the wilderness, and RMK will do all on its part to make the information on opportunities on offer simply and readily available, “ said Marge Rammo, Head of the Nature Management Department at RMK, stating the reasons for the creation of the search system. „We invite people into the wilderness yet bring it to their attention that for outings you should opt for areas prepared for that. It is convenient for the hiker and sustainable for the natural environment. “

Besides background information on the organisation, RMK’s new website breaks down into six themed pages: for the hiker, forest management, timber sales, plants and seeds, hunting and heritage culture.

The new webpage will run on Edicy, a novel web engine created in Estonia. Tõnu Runnel, executive manager of Edicy, considers the completion of the RMK webpage a significant touchstone – this is one of the more extensive web pages launched on Edicy to date. „It is a pleasure to see that the web engine focused on the needs of small business is able to accommodate also the needs of a large organisation, “- Runnel said.

„The making of the new RMK webpage was an exciting challenge also because of a change in the angle of approach. The previous website seven years old was somewhat static and focused on official information. The primary object of the newly completed webpage – provide first and foremost information about those RMK services relevant to the average person – provided an opportunity to create a new, ludic and colourful webpage. “
