13.07.2007 - Ülle Rajasalu was named the new Chairwoman of the RMK Supervisory Board 29.09

At its 10 July meeting, the Supervisory Board of the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) elected Ülle Rajasalu as its chairwoman.

Ülle Rajasalu is a member of the Tallinn City Counsel and the administrative counsel of the Pirita district. From 2000 to 2004 she was the Pirita city district elder; from autumn 2004 to spring 2005 she was the deputy mayor of Tallinn. From April 2005 to April 2007 she was a member of the Riigikogu. Ülle Rajasalu is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Tartu, and an economist by profession.

In addition, with the 28 June 2007 Order of the Government of the Republic, the RMK Supervisory Board also includes Riigikogu members Tõnis Kõiv, Helmer Jõgi and Tiina Oraste, the head of the budget department of the Ministry of Finance Ivar Sikk, consultant to the Minister of Finance Rein Järvelill, assistant minister of the Ministry of the Environment Rita Annus, the manager of AS Kunda Trans Andres Lume, and managing director of the Estonian Forest Industries Association Andres Talijärv.

The Supervisory Board elected Rita Annus as deputy chairwoman, Tõnis Kõiv as chairman of the auditing committee, and as members of the auditing committee Ivar Sikk and the manager of the Internal Audit Department of the Ministry of the Environment Urmas Hallika.

Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board Ülle Rajasalu sees an increase in future turnover for RMK, not only from an increase in forest material prices but also from an increase in prescribed cutting volumes. “In a situation where the price of firewood is high and the lumber industry is short of materials, an increase in cutting volumes would be one possible solution,” confirmed Rajasalu. It could be done in the national reserve and still at the cost of unreformed state land that has yet to be managed.

RMK is a governmental profit-making institution, established pursuant to the Forest Act, whose main objective is the effective and sustainable management of state forests. RMK grows reforestation materials, arranges forest works, organises the sale of forest and timber, and organises game maintenance. In addition, RMK creates possibilities for nature hiking and forest holidays in recreational areas and shapes nature awareness. RMK manages 38% of Estonia’s forests.
